 A Guided 4-day, 50 km spectacular slackpacking trail
in the heart of the Cape Whale Coast, 2.5hrs from Cape Town.

Enjoy each day on The Perlemoen Trail with our expert guide exploring this extraordinary seashore, a truly remarkable view of this coastline, professionally interpreted with special insights into marine ecology, fynbos medicinal plants and flowers, and an in-depth understanding of Khoisan history and the many shipwrecks in these waters. With over 30 years of experience in adventure guiding Jason Stonehewer hosts The Perlemoen Trail. Jason is passionate about nature guiding and studying our amazing inter-coastal marine environment.  In August 2014, Jason received the Mayor’s Award for his contribution to environmental awareness and education.

 Jason has brought on board several specialist guides  true experts in their field who share his passion for conservation and the local area.  Some hiking trail facilitators use inexperienced unqualified guides, but all our guides are qualified FGASA (Field Guides Association of South Africa) guides with specialities in Marine ecology, Strandveld flora & Fauna, medicinal and edible plants, geology, shipwrecks and Khoi-san history. Meet the guides

Highly recommended. The walk is beautiful, Jason is well versed on the environment and the history of the coastline and a fantastic host and tour-guide. I came home feeling like I had been in a different world for a few days. Well worth the trip and I would do it again at the drop of hat. A lovely experience whether you do this with friends or family.

We were 12 ladies who did the 4 day Perlemoen trail from Die Dam to De Kelders. Jason made this an unforgettable experience, by sharing his vast knowledge and passion for marine ecology and nature in general, with us. He opened up a whole new world to us by making the beach come to life. He was so accommodating and patient and was eager to share with us and answer all our, sometimes stupid, questions.

Our family group ranging from granddaughter of 6 yrs, teenagers, dad & gran & granddad had a particularly successful trip. Jason was so patient and did everything he could to make our walks and the whole experience memorable. He has a enormous wealth of knowledge and passion about the marine environment and we were privileged to see many whales and their calves - some really close to shore - and also seals and a multitude of birds. These four days with Jason were a remarkable adventure, and connection with Nature! He is easy-going but organised, lots of fun to be with, respectful and considerate, and enjoys sharing his love for and knowledge of the area. I enjoyed his insights and knowledge of everything from the smallest plants and animals to the planetary tides, to detailed history of the area, including shipwrecks and archeology. The freshwater cave at the end made it the most unique coastal walk I have EVER done - and I have done many!
